Childhood memories and Honey Joys

Image

I am facing this unique issue of having kids who love to cook, but don’t like to eat. For them It’s a none issue, they are cooking and mummy is eating, how nice is that?

I just run out of creative ideas today (about what to feed them, not me), when I stumbled across the site http://www.kidspot.com.au,  and was immediately kicked through a time machine right back to my early childhood.

Unbelievably easy to make, and fun to eat.

Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients:

  • 90g butter
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 4 cups Kellogg’s Corn Flakes

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 150°C.

Line 24 hole patty pan with paper cases.

Melt butter, sugar and honey together in a saucepan until frothy.

Add Kellogg’s Corn Flakes and mix well.

Working quickly spoon into paper patty cases.

Bake in a slow oven 150°C for 10 minutes.

Cool.

Notes

  • Sprinkle a few crushed peanuts over the top if nut allergy isn’t a problem.
  • This recipe was created by Kellogg’s nutritionists.

  1. This is lovely. We’ve had our moments making this too at home 🙂

  2. Your first line here was hilarious! They cook, they don’t eat, but you do. Temptations! Maybe you need to get them sharing with neighbors, for your sake?! A win win for almost everyone, maybe? Great that they are in the kitchen making stuff no matter what. I loved your genes and strawberry post, and others too. It looks like you are doping great things there at your house!

  3. That is always the problem with my kids. I’m a sucker for easy recipes ;).

  4. My kindergarten kiddos would love these! Please ship me enough for a classroom full of 5yr olds!

Oh I used to love honey joys! Great memories…and now I want to bake some! Thanks for liking my post too 🙂

  6. I love Kellogs! I should do this for my nieces and nephews when I visit them later in the year!

  7. Interesting kids’ recipes. We’ll be anxious to pass them on to our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thanks also for liking our blogging of a children’s chapter book, “Jake, Little Jimmy and Big Louie.” We hope you will continue to follow it. Best wishes, Gayle and Ian Moore-Morrans

  8. I have the same problem. I love to bake. My kids don’t eat sweets. So I learned how to break the recipes down to two servings. LOL

  9. ABC days of being a mom

Hello good to come by your blog. Thank you for reading mine….

  10. Amazing how much fun, mileage, and nostalgia we can get out of certain cereals. Corn flakes in deserts, or as part of a stuffing recipe. Then there are those crucnchie Rice Krispies marshmallow treats, piled high on a plate, waiting for you to get home from school. Or the oh so simple Cherrios, or Fruit Loops in a plastic container as munchy foods for the toddler in the carriage. Glancing at a parent and child across a subway car, or rewinding the tape of my life — the images are there — and somehow comforting.

  11. I’ll share these with granddaughters this summer. Thanks for the ideas.

  12. This is fun to have and sounds yummy! I have grandkids like Gail just said…your posts are very well organized and thoughtful.
